m.4<\/span><\/span><\/strong>
1.<\/span> The<\/span> maximum length<\/span> of the grip in foil and \u00e9p\u00e9e is 20 cm, measured between lines B and<\/span>
E, and 18 cm, measured between lines B and D. In sabre the maximum length of the grip is<\/span>
17 cm (see<\/span> Figures 8<\/span>,<\/span> 9<\/span> and<\/span> 13<\/span>).<\/span><\/span>
2.<\/span> The grip must be able to pass through the same<\/span> gaug<\/span>e<\/span> as the guard. It must be so made<\/span>
that normally it cannot injure either the user or his opponent.<\/span><\/span>
3.<\/span> All types of grips are allowed providing that they conform to the regulations which have<\/span>
been framed with a view to placing the various types of weapons on t<\/span>he same footing.<\/span>
However, at \u00e9p\u00e9e, orthopedic grips, whether metal or not, may not be covered with<\/span>
leather or any material which could hide wires or switches.<\/span><\/span>
4.<\/span> The grip must not include any device which assists the fencer to use it as a<\/span> throwing<\/span>
weapon<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>
5.<\/span> The<\/span> grip must not include any device which can increase in any way the<\/span> protection<\/span>
afforded to the hand or wrist of the fencer by the guard: a cross bar or electric socket<\/span>
which extends beyond the edge of the guard is expressly forbidden.<\/span><\/span>
6.<\/span> If the grip (or glove<\/span>) includes any<\/span> device<\/span> or<\/span> attachment<\/span> or has a special shape<\/span>
(orthopedic) which fixes the position of the hand on the grip, the grip must conform to the<\/span>
following conditions.<\/span><\/span>
a)<\/span> It must determine and fix one position only for the hand on the grip.<\/span><\/span>
b)<\/span> When the hand<\/span> occupies this one position on the grip, the extremity of the thumb<\/span>
when completely extended must not be more than 2 cm from the inner surface of the<\/span>
